Wrestlemania Rankings

In a little over a week we will be witnessing the 30th installment of the show of shows Wrestlemania. In the next few of days I will be doing rankings.

First ranking I’ll be doing is the worst Wrestlemania matches from the last ten years.

(2004-2014)

Wrestlemania XX – XXIX

Wrestlemania XX – Madison Square Garden, Manhattan, NY

Goldberg vs Brock Lesnar w/ Special Guest Referee – Stone Cold Steve Austin

If you’ve seen this match I don’t even have to explain. If not heres why this match was horrendous. When I was I kid this was a dream match, 2 juggernauts like Lesnar and Goldberg in match should have been epic. Instead we see these two clearly not wanting to be in the ring. Goldberg’s contract was expiring and Lesnar was gonna try his hand in the NFL. Since everyone knew about this the fans hijacked the match, jeering at both wrestlers, shouting “You sold out!” and singing “nah-nah-nah-nah hey-hey-hey goodbye” infuriating the two. The two did nothing for about 10 minutes but stare at each other then would just push each other to the turnbuckles. At the very end they finally hit a few finishers and Goldberg would stand above Lesnar. Stone Cold being the special guest referee would be the only one cheered for afterwards when he stunned both wrestlers.

Wrestlemania XXVI – University of Phoenix, Glendale, AZ

Bret Hart vs Vince McMahon

This match was not only predictable but it wasn’t even a match. Vince comes in with the Hart family claiming he has screwed Bret once more like in Montreal but all the did was land a few strikes, Vince gets beat down from the Hart family then immediately taps to the Sharpshooter. What a classic..

Wrestlemania XXVII – Georgia Dome, Alanta, GA

Michael Cole w/ Jack Swagger vs Jerry “The King” Lawler w/ Special Guest Referee Stone Cold Steve Austin

Poor Stone Cold, had to ref more than one crappy match. For months Monday Night Raw’s commentators had an ongoing feud and they finally were to settle the score at Wrestlemania. We all knew The King would win because well, he’s a Hall of Famer and Cole had no pro wrestling experience. But then again according to the anonymous Raw GM, Cole won by DQ because of Stone Cold’s involvement. Couldn’t have been worse not to mention this Wrestlemania was one of the worst of all time.

Wrestlemania XXIX – Metlife Stadium, East Rutherford, NJ

Rock vs Cena II – WWE Championship

Last year I had the unfortunate experience of seeing this in person. Too predictable of a match, Rock drops the title so he can go back to acting and Cena is once again portrayed as the best wrestler ever. Of course WWE’s excuse is that its a big draw and that they’re the two best wrestlers on the card. Wrong, Rock is good but Cena is the worst wrestler to ever step foot in a ring but WWE doesn’t see it that way. Not only did nobody want to see this but we’ve already seen it! Just like the rest of the card with the exception of a few matches, predictable re-runs.

Wrestlemania XXIX – Metlife Stadium, East Rutherford, NJ

Triple H w/ Shawn Michaels vs Brock Lesnar w/ Paul Heyman

Another re-run, these two fought a Summerslam months before in a slow pointless match and this match well… Same thing only difference it was a PG-rated no-holds-barred match and Shawn Michaels is involved. Seeing this live, within the first 10 minutes of the match the whole stadium was quiet, thats how bored everyone was. You could literally hear a pin drop. This match would have been decent had there actually been a build up and some effort during the match.

Wrestlemania XXVIII – Sun Life Stadium, Miami, FL

Sheamus vs Daniel Bryan w/ AJ – World Heavyweight Championship

18 seconds really? That’s the title match we get? Yes not many people really cared for this match but come on! The World Heavyweight title deserved better.

Wrestlemania XXIV – Citrus Bowl, Orlando, FL

Kane vs Chavo Guerrero – ECW Championship

Another match cut way too short, this time 8 seconds. Even worse it really killed the ECW title.  ECW was already dead to begin with.

Wrestlemania XXV – Reliant Stadium, Houston, TX

Triple H vs Randy Orton – WWE Championship

Bad build up, slow match and no emotion. At least Triple H had a cool entrance.

Well thats what I have so far. Tomorrow I will showcase the best WM matches of the last 10 years.
